something I wrote today in a political blog i frequent
I find it interesting that not one person has even mentioned Al Queda. You know, those guys who actually pulled off the attack and who are our sworn enemy and the the "alleged" reason our troops are engaged overseas. No, instead, we have fallen back on age old prejudices that further feed the twisted moral comapass of our enemies, giving them fuel for the fire. As a 9/11 victim who lost most of my friends that day, I've come to the conclusion that we have completely lost sight of EXACTLY what happened, choosing instead to condemn an entire segment of the human community which did not in any way partake in the actions that almost killed me and succeeded in killing people I cared deeply for. And while we focus our hatred on Islam, those responsible are easily overlooked in the feeding frenzy. Furthermore, they are given multitudes of potential supporters from the throngs of people we condemn for simply being what they are. We're becoming the very thing we claim to be fighting against. I want Bin Laden's head more than most of you. It personal to me. But if in the process, I learn to see the world in an orgy of self-righteousness and judge whole segments of the human community as being something other than my equal, then Bin Laden and Al Queda have already won, even if we manage to kill them all. KNOW YOUR ENEMY. Theyve most certainly got YOU figured out.
