Maybe we were watching it the same night, Paul and I watched it too, it's one of my favourite films from when I was I kid!.....Gotta love the brash Sea Captain!
"I'll polish his brass for him!" ...or...."I mean MEN, not perfumed parlor snakes!"
[Later Edit]
Back to 3:10 to Yuma, both films are not bad and I enjoyed them, individually, very much!
If, you like the classic 1950's Western film, than you'll like the 1957 version. Filmed in B&W, it has less 'action' and the inner workings of the plot are 'easier' to follow and it's not cluttered with side stories. The costumes are okay. The acting at times is a little cheezy, but overall it is good. Some scenes are drawn out.
If, you like the Hollywood-of-today spin on Westerns than you'll like the 2007 version. The landscape of Arizona is beautiful with all it's rich colour. The costumes are great and totally authentic! In the area(s) in the 1957 version, where scenes were drawn out, the 2007 version fills that in with more gun shooting, more blood, hyped-up drama, interesting actualities of the times, and of course a 21st century Hollywood film is not complete without, yep, special effects.
Well, both films are enjoyable and it's fun to compare!
The reason, I perfer the 1957 version, is the ending...which I will not give away.
