Awesome! As you know I am rewatching it now too - stunning beautiful. Watching it is a spiritual experience in itself

Pardon me if someone has already posted regarding this film.
The most recent 'Star Trek' film was enjoyable as a scifi action film.
My partner used to be a real geek when it came to 'Star Trek'. So for nine years I got more than I honestly wanted of it. But I actually enjoyed this one and am glad I purchased it as I will watch it again.

The last Star Trek was wonderful, so much fun - everything that the Star Wars prequels should have been but weren't. Love it, and gotta say that Captain Kirk is very easy on the eyes haha.

You know what? I think that the latest Star Trek is a wonderful film, period, regardless of genre.
I was expecting to like it, since it had wonderful reviews and great word of mouth. Often, great expectations do not pan out, but not in this case.
I loved everything about it---the story, the screenplay, the casting, the performances, the direction, the design, and the way it used familiar characters to spark our imaginations in new ways.
It is a prime example of good story-telling on film.

Chris Pine deserves a round of applause for so capably filling Captain Kirk's character and costume.

I have to say as a Trekkie...I didn't expect to think too much although like Anjou, I had seen great reviews for it and loved it!! Chris Pine admirably filled Kirks (Shatners) shoes and Zachary Quinto, who I didn't expect to like as Spock, did a superb job also!!
      Yep...10 outta 10 all round!!!

The only thing I found slightly lacking from the film was the philosophical depth that most of the best Star Trek offered, but hopefully the next film will bring back some of that. I can't wait.

I know what you mean Rory but this is based on the Shatner Star Trek and all that went with that and in those times, it was very -ist....sexist etc....the real change came with The Next Generation. I like that they are trying to keep true to the original series while trying to reconcile with all you mentioned here hon.

Hmm, I have to disagree a bit. I've always had a soft spot for the original series and from the behind the scenes stuff I've read, I came to realise its importance socially and philosophically. It was greatly ahead of its time, especially for TV science fiction. Although obviously it reflected the sexism of its time, with the scantily-clad babe of the week (this was more or less expected on TV networks I think...and come to think of it continued on the newer spin-offs...7 of 9...hmm), it was devised as a means to tell stories about current social issues (including war, discrimination, religion) which would never have otherwise been allowed on tv. Unusually in sci-fi it depicted a positive future where humanity had overcome its differences and come together. I mean, this was made during the cold war when man people actually feared for the future, yet Star Trek offered a vision of hope that we could overcome our differences and as we all know featured a Russian character, a black female officer (this was during a time when racial segregation was still in practise), an Asian character and even an alien. The message was that we'll survive, put aside our differences and find unity in our differences. So, I guess my point is it's kind of a shame if the original series is only remembered for its elements of sexism because in so many other ways it was truly ahead of its time. It was an important vision and remains so.

It did often feature an unfortunate interventionist approach to dealing with other planets (let's impose our values, enforce democratisation, etc) which as you said was countered by Next Generation by a more liberal social approach in that respect. All the Treks were scathing of religion, until Deep Space Nine, which was the only to examine spirituality in a positive light. Throughout it all, I think Star Trek used metaphor and allegory to explore social and moral issues and a positive future in which we can work together. The new film still had the positive 23rd century future (even just assuring us that we'll survive to the 23rd century without obliterating ourselves is more positive than 90% of other sci-fi films). I guess I'd just like the next film to capture some of the social/philosophical relevance of its source material...and also be a really good film of course, which is admittedly primary (the last few Next Generation films had the message but frankly weren't particularly great films).

Oops sorry for the long rambly maybe-slightly-offtopic post...!

That makes me chuckle. As much as I love the source tale (Rapunzel), I have steered clear of Tangled precisely because of the name change and questionable marketing. Based on your recommendation, though, I need to check it out. Thanks!

I enjoy the first two 'Underwold' movies and finally purchased and watched the third. If you enjoyed the first two, the third is also entertaining.
I was hoping the White Werewolf would make another appearance in the third movie. But that wasn't to be.
The three are put together in such a way that you could watch them individually without issue. But I would recommend all three if you enjoy any one of them.
Still like the White Werewolf. I could easily bring it home as a second teddy bear. LOL.

I hope 4th will be better.. 3rd was ok, but I think of it more as a spin off because we all new the plot from frist two movies..
