was supposed to head to afghanistan today. got a call to cancel from higher up due to current events and the risk levels associated with that.
as i read reactions, i realize that most people cannot in any way, form or manner grasp the emotional toll today has on those of ud that lived that day first hand...and never will

hi .. in a way its good that you werent in Afghanistan unknowing just before the major event that has happened ,it could have been very risky for you. why were you going there to begin with (hope you dont mind me asking ) are u a peace keeper ? .

If I were a so-called peace keeper, they would not have stopped me from going lol. Boots on the ground are in high order right now. BTW, Afghanistan is NOT a peace-keeping mission. The US is there to destroy al-quida, period.
No. Im a marketing executive for a construction company that does a ton of work in Afghanistan including police stations, schools, and military facilities such as airfields, forward operating bases and the like. I was supposed to meet with the US Army and US Air Force and with the Afghani government regarding construction needs in the upcoming 3 years as well as to survey the work we currently have underway. The call to cancel came from my corporate superiors.
As far as the risk is concerned, well life is what it is. Ive never been one to shy away from danger and in truth id probably be safer in Afghanistan than most other places in the world, lol. My father, God rest his soul, a former US Army Colonel, was one of the US' top special forces operatives for some 30 years or so. His former unit is in Afghanistan and Ive had a close relationship with the leadership of that unit for many, many years. I was supposed to stay at the same base they are currently operating from. Would have been good to see them. Ive known some of them since i was a kid.
And I knew of the OBL killing before I was supposed to leave. It was one of the strangest nights in my life. I live in New York. Im a 9/11 survivor. Do you really think Im safer here in the aftermath? I mean, really, we've prolly got a target painted on us right now, LOL.
