      Default Some winter remedies

was thinking of posting a few natural remedies for the coming winter season...its another way of keeping our whole mind, body and spirit together. If anyone would like any help with anything along this line, please feel free to PM me and I'll try to help out.

Here are some good remedies for sore throats:

Herbal teas: Garden sage...use as a gargle and then drink the tea as it is a tonic herb ( but not if you think you may be pregnant)
You can also try propolis throat lozenges or gargle with propolis...helps soothe but also is an immune system booster.
If the tickle develops into a cough, try using garlic syrup.
Take 3 or 4 fat cloves of garlic, skin and slice them into a little cup; add a couple of tablespoons of honey, cover and let stand for a couple of hours. Take in teaspoon-doses.

You could also make a rub of tablespoon of sunflower or almond oil and add three drops of tea tree and two of lavender. Rub all around the throat and neck especially before bed.

Use tea tree in the oil burner to kill any germs that may be around to avoid the rest of the family getting it.

To help in general with colds and flu...take echinicea capsules or tincture along with a good multivitamin and mineral supplement. Drink plenty of water...the recommended amount is 6 - 8 glasses per day.
Also cutting down on caffiene and stimulants like sugar or processed foods. Our bodies are designed to bulk up a little in winter to keep us warm so a cup of hot chocolate as a treat now and then is great for the spirit!

If you have had dose of the flu, then make sure you don't overdo it as many try to get back to work far too quickly and the body needs time to recuperate. Rest up when you need to and be nice to yourself with a treat of a 'duvet day'...a day off to do nothing but stay under the duvet with a few good dvd's and a nice treat of something.

Just wanted to add that if you are in school/college or work where you come into contact with lots of people, a good way to keep yourself healthy is to keep the quality of your food good...whole foods etc and to get plenty of fresh air too.
As I mentioned earlier you can take precautions by using vitamins and echinecea...another immune booster is propolis. This is made from royal jelly...which is a derivative of honey. It is what the worker bees feed the queen to keep her healthy and strong. Honey is well known for its uses in medicine but did you know it is also a great nourishing feed for your skin if it is dry?
You can use it with a little warm milk and add a teaspoon of honey to it (preferably organic) and while soaking in a nice warm bath...smooth it over your skin on your face and it will help. If the skin is very dry you could add a little almond or sunflower oil to it too.

Another thing to try is when you have the chills or flu and the muscles are aching and sore...you can make up a rub for them.

For general aches and pains (rheumatism and arthritis) you could add a couple of drops of lavender and a couple of drops of rosemary to a tablespoon of sunflower or almond oil.

For that shivery chill feeling in your bones you could substitute the rosemary for ginger or pepper as these are heating oils and warm you up by stimulating the circulation.

For headaches you can also use essential oils. If the headache is due to tension, you could put a drop of neat lavender oil on your fingertip and smooth it across your forehead and put a drop behind your ears and on the wrist pulse points.
For a headache (flu type) you could put a single drop of peppermint oil on your forehead...this has a cooling soothing effect.
Also peppermint is great if you have 'shopped till you drop' and your feet are killing you, put a drop or two of peppermint into a basin of warm water and leave your feet in there for about 10 mins...great relief!

Well here is a visualisation just for boosting your energy generally and promoting feel-good factor....

Sit somewhere snug and cosy and so you are comfortable...visualise yourself lying on a beach, all alone...water lapping at your feet. Warm balmy water...the sun shines down upon you and you feel all your body warm with his rays.
The slightest whisper of a breeze blows through the palm trees...a single sea bird flies off out to sea and you watch till he is no more.
The heat from the sun makes you feel so relaxed and sleepy...
As the warm water laps at your toes...with your out breath and the receding water...all your ills leave your body. On your in breath...you bring in the golden light of the suns rays until it fills your whole being.
You feel energised and healthy and you feel strong. You stretch and yawn and still the heat fills you...warming and soothing...

When you are ready...come back to the here and now and know that your body is healing and healthy. Slowly open your eyes and remember where you are but that light and warmth stay with you.
