As I watched the wasp tend her (?) nest this afternoon I noticed an ant approaching it. Apparently the wasp noticed it as well. She was quick to defend the nest and chased the ant away.
What had begun as a single wasp has now become a small colony.
Cool to watch.
That is a good question Narnia. I wonder if the light might disrupt their sleep patterns.
The baby wasp have emerged from their chambers. Babies are everywhere. One appears to have developed without it's wings. It will be fine as long as the mothers are taking care of it. But when the mothers go away... well.
It probably does to some effect, however it shouldn't be long lasting in its effect because the nest will be removed out at the end of the season ...
Only Nature/Universal Law will tell .....Quote:

'Wasps 101', lol.
It has been and continues to be a very positive experience in having the opportunity to watch the behavior and life cycle of the wasps on my balcony this year. I've learn so much more about them than I've ever known before.
I've learned that the wasps on my balcony are Paper Wasps, one of 22 species found in the US. And 1,100 known species worldwide. They tend to only be aggressive in situations where they feel threatened, the nest is disturbed, and they're territorial. Although they haven't bothered me at all.
I also learned that the venom of the larger wasps is toxic enough as to have the potential of killing dogs, cats, wolves, and birds of pray.
They also have the ability of facial recognition similar to humans.
They are very interesting.
The warm colors of autumn come in contrast to the cooler temps of the season. It all comes together providing a clear sense of change.
I do enjoy this time of year.
