The brand new Stargate Universe (Or SGU) has landed this side of the world (In Europe that is)

SGU is a military science fiction television series, following on the Stargate franchise like SG1 and Atlantis
Stargate Universe follows the adventures of a present-day, multinational exploration team unable to return to Earth after an evacuation to the an
Ancient spaceship Destiny, which is travelling in a distant corner of the universe.

The guys behind it are Brad Wright (http://www.mysteriouswisdom.com/wiki/Brad_Wright) and Robert C. Cooper (http://www.mysteriouswisdom.com/wiki/Robert_C._Cooper) (Same olé same olé, and thats good IMO)

It's on Sky 1 (and in HD YEY!) at 8PM Tuesdays
Just watched the pilot and loved it! Every SG fan should be seeing this.

Okay. Unless MW is going to pay my cable bill each month, you need to stop taunting me with talk of these programs I want to see but cannot.
Just Joking.
At least this way I get a glimpse of what's going on. ;)

I've been so looking forward to this, I've missed stargate. Unfortunately we don't have a sky subscription anymore. I think I will have to download the episodes (but don't tell anyone I said that!). It looks fantastic from the trailers, a bit of a BSG vibe going on and I'm still pleasantly astonished that they got an actor of Robert Carlyle's calibre to head the show. Can't wait to see it :)

Aah..Michael...if I could copy it off the recorder for you I would ;):two hearts:

I plan on watching it tonight, Robert Carlyle is a great actor, should be good, certainly looks so going by the trailers I have seen for it...

I love these "Lost in space" dramas, maybe they will meet Voyager or Red Dwarf, now that would be an episode worth watching :D

So much good TV (and good sci-fi) on lately

Robert Carlyle is a cool guy for sure and I'm digging the who he plays in SGU.

Also to note is Sky had a 'SGU access all areas' show right after the Two hr Pilot, it should be repeated over and over this week and/or on sat/sun so look out for it if you missed it.

Michael, this should work for you, it's a link to the the pilot (in two parts / on line player) from the SGU website: http://stargate.mgm.com/view/content/1649/index.html
Rory, if you cant wait get a proxy change and this will play for you.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, looks very promising with a good cast, Robert Carlyle was great as expected but you have got love Eli, One minute hes unemployed playing too many computer games next day hes Eli the space adventurer lol.

I will check out that access all areas should be interesting

I love the observation decks in these space ships, They all seem to have them, The night sky can be breathtaking on a clear night or through a powerful telescope but imagine being in one of these observation decks for real, talk about mind blowing.

Looking forward to the next episode :)

I think I will get into this more than SG-1 or Atlantis, It seems a lot darker than them, more like BSG or Babylon 5. I have just watched the 3rd and 4th episodes and both were excellent.

For anybody who has not seen it yet heres a trailer

I just watched the 4th episode (I think?) last night and I'm very frustrated with this show. They have managed to create the feel and realism of BSG, but they really need to pick up the pace. It's way too slow, with no real dramatic tension. They need some kind of adversary, as simply having malfunctions on the ship is a just dull. Robert Carlyle is fantastic, but he's almost too good...he's in a different league to the rest of the cast and it kind of shows them up.

I still have hope for the series, but unless the quality of scripting improves I fear people will lose interest quickly. I'm feeling kind of nostalgic for the old stargate series now...

Yep I hear ya, as much as (some said) SG1 and Atlantis sucked at least they moved at a fast pace.

Just for the record, I loved both SG1 and Atlantis, in fact I watched 3 SG's only yesterday on Sky2. *I cry* "Why did they kill this!!?"

SGU does move slow thats for sure and at times I'm kinda drifting away from the TV screen due to nothing holding me to it, this is a pity as shows get cancelled for less.
What bugs me the most is (Rory your so lucky here) Sky are showing us the censored version of each show! so far I found out that the 'adult' scene between Lt Scott and the female soldier were pulled from the Sky1 showing and thats why LT Scott was late to the meeting, and why they didnt know where to look when they found out they were both on the same ship... see? taking just one scene out can mess everything up and this bugs me when they feel they have the right to censor my viewing and confuse the hell out of me Grrrr. hell if it's a watershed issue then just move it to after 9 pm.

Anyhoo rant is over now and I going to watch it till the end as Ive done with all the SG's so I shall not moan much more about this.
What I loved to see see was the Caffeine withdrawal on some of them Ha I know how they feel.

GT is annoyed cos he wants sex scenes, dammit!! :biglaugh.2: haha, i'm teasing :bolt: I know what you mean, cutting it would have made later scenes seem a bit jarring or out of place. I was surprised by the sex scene actually, I don't want to sound like Mary Whitehouse but it was a little bit gratuitous or unnecessary.

I think they're spending way too much effort on making SGU adult and edgy and not enough on plot and pacing.

They really need an adversary.....

And way too many of the characters seem a bit cardboard...maybe they will develop with time.

I'll stick with it a while longer, I've been a Stargate fan for over 10 years :)

Ha if I wanted sex scenes I could just use the Internet! Sure thats what it was made for no? :Randy-git1:

What bugs me most is people like Sky editing scenes to get the family friendly vote while possibly destroying the show as it's not being shown as the director intended. And the same Sky then starts to wonder why the shows viewing figures are going down.... (not saying they are in this case but you get the point)

Leave them alone! :7hit (1):

make love not war.:Randy-git1:... I always wondered under what circumstances that randy git smilie would be used :D

I watched episode 5 last night as they were blazing into the sun and I enjoyed it. It is a slow burner but I think (hope) it will get better as the show goes on. .

The visuals on the show are quite impressive, I quite like the dark edgy tone of it sort of like Babylon 5 or New BSG, I think like those two shows they are trying to show the people as being normal, having sex, drinking, smoking, flawed characters etc.. but I agree it could do with picking up the pace a little.

GT my advice is to "aquire" it from the internet, uncut, no adverts and see it before it airs over here ;)

Haha why did that remind me of that quote from Randy in My Name is Earl when he sees a laptop: "oh, look Earl, a porn machine!" :biglaugh.2:

But yeah, it seems SGU is a more 'adult' oriented show, so it seems silly of Sky not to put it in a correspondingly adult timeslot.

I will keep watching for now.

But bring on the bad guys already! It seems to want to be Stargate Galactica which isn't a bad aspiration, but BSG had the Cylons. we need some menace.

Boys...boys....hmm...I wondered who would use the randy git too....lol
I love Stargate and have watched all of them...and the repeats and I have to agree...SGU is far too slow!!
Up the pace lads or you will lose the viewers!!!

And one of the episodes I saw (first one or two I think) did show one of the guys ...ahem...busy with a female!!

Ok enough said!! ;)
