How about a thread for strange and wonderful stories from around the globe :)

If I were a carpet

A 48-year-old immigrant from Malta regularly hangs out in various New York City bars, but always on the floor, so that he can enjoy his particular passion of being stepped on. "Georgio T." told The New York Times in June that he has delighted in being stepped on since he was a kid. While one playmate "wanted to be the doctor, (another) wanted to be the carpenter ... I would want to be the carpet." Nowadays, he carries a custom-made rug he can affix to his back (and a sign, Step on Carpet) and may lie face-down for several hours if the bar is busy. He is also a regular at "high foot-traffic" fetish parties, where dozens of stompers (especially women in stilettos) can satisfy their own urges while gratifying Georgio. [New York Times, 6-14-09]

Two gay male penguins have split up after becoming involved in a love triangle.
Harry and Pepper shared the same nest for six years and even raised an abandoned chick together. But then Harry fell for his widowed neighbour, Linda.
The Magellanic penguins have now moved in together, leaving Pepper feeling somewhat dejected at San Francisco Zoo
Bloggers have been quick to accuse Linda of being a "home wrecker" who "lives for her own happiness, no matter who gets hurt.

Same-name Couple To Wed After Facebook Meeting
Kelly Hildebrandt, You May Now Kiss Kelly Hildebrandt: Couple That Shares Name Will Share Vows

This October, Kelly Hildebrandt will vow to share her life with a man who already shares her name.

This is no joke. Kelly Katrina Hildebrandt, 20, and Kelly Carl Hildebrandt, 24, expect just over 100 guests at a ceremony at the Lighthouse Point Yacht & Racquet Club in South Florida, where they will become husband and wife.

"He is just everything that I've ever looked for," she said in an interview. "There's always been certain qualities that a guy has to have. And he has all the ones I could think of _ and more."

Their modern romance was a match made in cyberspace. She was curious and bored one night last year, so she plugged her name into the popular social networking Web site Facebook just to see if anyone shared it.

At the time, Kelly Hildebrandt, of Lubbock, Texas, was the only match.

So she sent him a message.

"She said 'Hi. We had the same name. Thought it was cool,'" Kelly Carl Hildebrandt said. "I thought she was pretty cute."

But there were also concerns.

"I thought, man, we've got to be related or something," he said.

For the next three months the two exchanged e-mails. Before he knew it, occasional phone calls turned into daily chats, sometimes lasting hours. He visited her in Florida after a few months and "fell head over heels."

"I thought it was fun," he said of that first online encounter. "I had no idea that it would lead to this."

Months after Kelly Hildebrandt sent her first e-mail, she found a diamond engagement ring hidden in treasure box on a beach in December.

"I totally think that it's all God's timing," Kelly Katrina Hildebrandt said. "He planned it out just perfect."

She's a student at a local community college. He works in financial services. They plan to make their home in South Florida.

It hasn't been all smooth sailing. A trip on a cruise ship almost got canceled when the travel agent deleted one ticket from the system, thinking someone had plugged in the same information twice.

There was also some uncertainty about how to phrase their wedding invitations, so they decided to include their middle names. But any confusion likely won't carry on past the husband and wife

Jacko Is Forever As Hair Turns Into Diamonds (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Showbiz-News/Michael-Jackson-Death-Lock-Of-Jackos-Hair-To-Be-Turned-Into-Diamonds-By-LifeGem-And-John-Reznikoff/Article/200907415346065?lpos=Showbiz_News_Carousel_Region_4&lid=ARTICLE_15346065_Michael_Jackson_Death%3A_Lock_Of_Jackos_Hair_To_B e_Turned_Into_Diamonds_By_LifeGem_And_John_Reznikoff)

A lock of Michael Jackson's hair is to be turned into diamonds to give a select few fans a unique way of remembering their idol.

The star lost the hair when he was set on fire during the filming of a Pepsi advert in 1984.

Ralph Cohen, the executive producer of the video, scooped up some of the charred strands and put them in his pocket as Jackson was rushed off set to hospital.

He kept it for 25 years before selling it to John Reznikoff, who has amassed a collection of hair from famous historical figures including Abraham Lincoln, John F Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.

Now the collector has teamed up with LifeGem to produce an exclusive set of diamonds from a portion of the hair. The rest will remain in his collection.

LifeGem founder Dean VandenBiesen said: "We specialise in creating diamonds from locks of hair.

"Our plan is to give people an opportunity to own a diamond made from Michael Jackson's DNA.

This is a true story of a Garage Owner in the Southwest.

He was sick & tired of thugs breaking into his garage shop to steal tools etc. So he came up with this idea…. He put the word out that he had a new “Mexican Lion” at the shop that would attack anyone who tried to break in or climb his fence. The would-be thieves saw the “Lion” from a distance and fled the scene.
