One of my friends almost choked to death on sticky rice the other day.
I think we sometimes take for granted the way that we consume our food. Meats like steak, can become stringy, swell and become elongated when it is chewed; it is best to take small bites.
Nothing is worth choking for - not being late for an event; not in a rush to watch something on TV; not being so hungry that we eat in giant gulps. If you have food in front of you, you will get fed. Don't risk your life for eating carelessly.

I have twice had the occasion of saving someone's life from choking to death by using the Heimlich maneuver on them!

Scary moments, but it's great to have the training to know what to do in the case of an emergency!

CPR is definitely another excellent training to have!

Glad your friend is okay! :)

i agree.....

i work with the elderly and it is not uncommon for them to have choking food episodes.......it is scary.

( i remember years ago..i watched a movie and in it a girl eating an apple choked on the skin and died. she didn't know she was dead and stayed on earth a lost soul)

that movie scared me so much, that for quite a few years i couldnt eat an apple without pealing it.

Thanks for the info, my friends.

Not only is it good to chop meat etc. in small bit-size pieces, it is also good to have some type of beverage to facilitate food going down to where it belongs.
