As some of you know, about 6 months ago, I pulled all of Black Ether's music off of acidplanet. Since then Ive been looking for a non-label affiliated music site that i can use as a home base for ALL BE work. MySpace doesnt suit that need.

In any event Im wondering where "Joe Public" frequents for listening to mp3s, particularly those from indie artists. So name your sites here and Ill check them out.

Thanks

I use deezer.com ,but i am not sure whether it is a "non-label affiliated music site".....I primarily use this site and have pretty much found all my searches.

Lastfm (http://www.last.fm/) does it for me.

Look here

Do you make music? Get paid directly. (http://www.last.fm/uploadmusic)

Your listeners have probably started a page for you already. Join them, upload your music and earn royalties every time someone listens. Plus, because Last.fm recommends new music to fans, yours will be played to the right ears.
It’s all free. Sign up as an artist or label today (http://www.last.fm/uploadmusic).

Black Ether has been on Last.Fm since its inception. When they started that site, they imported all of the artists from the All Music Guide. BE has been in the AMG since 2001.

The site, however, has major bugs for uploading music (Ive had to upload albums up to 30 times to make it work). It isnt worth the frustration. Then theres the fact that the charts on last.fm are completely dominated by artists on major labels, burying the indie artist into oblivion. Its almost impossible to get noticed there and the fact that you have to use their software for listening makes in inpractical as far as sending folks there to listen. People just wont go to the trouble. And finally, last.fm is going to start charging Joe Public a fee for radio listens in most parts of the world (USA, UK and Germany excluded). Thats the straw that breaks the camels back. I dont collect royalties for listens, although I do have that option. Net listens should be free...In fact, Im toying with the idea of releasing The Obsidian March (both volumes) as a free album. At some point the art has to trancend profit or we become the very thing we shun in the indie moivement.

No. Last.fm is not the answer. Too bad too cause they have the best stream on the net. The songs actually sound like I recorded them. Cant say that on any other site. And you can upload as many tunes as you want....of course thats provided you can get around the upload bugs lol.
