Art is a primal instinct.

The creation process of art, has been with mankind since the day we learned to walk. Perhaps, it was once used as our way of communicating before we learned to perfect the ways of communicating with talking and writing?

Art has been ever evolving and adapting through the times. It has been honoured as being the foundation to all societies and cultures across the globe. It has been praised and it has been scrutinized. It will continue to take shape and form, and stand on its own in all cultures and through time.

Whatever your personal flavour is for art .... supporting the arts is like helping to maintain the very foundation of society and what better way of supporting the arts is doing it locally, at the grass roots level! :) And the cool thing is, you don't have to be 'rich' or 'talented' or 'learned' in order to support the arts. Because it comes from an instinct, you know what you like.

There are many ways to support your local arts .... check out ....

1. Local Art Galleries: See what's 'happening and hot' now in the art world! Sign up on a galleries mailing list, attend openings and maybe meet the artist, plus it's makes for a different night out.

2. Art Associations: Another great way to see what's 'happening and hot' now, attend the openings and meet local artists and perhaps bump into some friends!

3. Art Centres: Take an art class of some kind from a local artist.

4. Art Fairs: Walk around, check it out, maybe buy a small piece of art you like and make an artists day!

5. Art Festivals: Usually a big scene of hot happenings with lots of varity to choose from and just enjoy the scene of the enegry.

6. Museums: See it through the ages and learn the history and see what is consider 'hot' today!

Well, being an artist myself, I think its important to help support ones own local art scene .... because it is afterall a primal instinct.

Did it ever occur to you that the pyramids, the sphinx, ect
were grand pieces of artwork.
In our culture it is a sad thing that something of beauty cannot be
justified with just being that.
Almost everytime I tell someone I am an artist, they will reply with
"do you sell any?", granted money is in a way a compliment to your work
and sadly something we can't seem to live without; but it is a misrepresentation of the actual artwork, a poor judge of it's real value.
I was told the other day,"Artists are the truth of our society","because
they tell it like it is."
I really needed to hear something like that...I have slowed down now,as I
have begun spending time composing music and writing...anyway
I was talking to a friends Mother who told me her son has been working
16hrs a day as a massage therapist, I replied "ya, me too I've been doing
my art 16 hrs a day for the last 10 years."
Her reply? "no, you don't understand he works 16 hrs a day"...me "that's
what I just said I've been working 16 hrs a day.ect.
I really don't get it, my whole life I saw the artist as having a quite
honorable proffesion, then there's this thing that somehow got into
my head,"are you a real artist?" to the point I actually got afraid to
call myself that, untill finnally the simple answer came to me, I do art -
therefore I am an artist.period.

Peace and Love - be what you wanna be,

the best way to support art is to make a donation to any organization that promotes art in the schools. this became a casualty of funding almost 20 years ago and its never recovered. I personally own my own endeavors in music to the fact that I learned theory and learned to play (properly) as a child in school

I am blown away to hear "art is a primal instinct",
I was thinking of that, and sorry any whores out there,
I'm positive it is an older proffesion,
I kinda had the same idea, but didn't carry it quite that far.
But yes, I do art from my instinct, this is so true..and sometimes
magical things happen, like pictures I make and don't understand
them until years later :Boy_yes3:
