From WWF

Right now, there are as few as 3,200 tigers left in the wild and that number is falling. Tiger habitat is being lost at an alarming rate and poaching has surged over recent months.

Thankfully, there’s still hope. Given protection, space to roam and sufficient prey, tiger numbers can increase rapidly. They can claw their way back from the brink. But, we need your help.

This November, Prime Minister Putin of Russia is hosting the first ever Heads of Government Tiger Summit and we want to show the leaders of the 13 countries where tigers still roam that there is huge public support for urgent political action. This could be a turning-point in tiger conservation.

I completely agreee Rory. It's unfortunate that not more members have taken the simple step of signing this petition.

I'd like to think that regardless of the number of comments, people on MW have still taken the time to do this. When I post on FB or twitter I can just tell most the people on there don't give a crap. Apathy is one of the uglier human characteristics.

Hope you manage to get it working Lorri, thanks so much for trying! Has anyone else had problems signing?

Has anyone else had problems signing?

I did not encounter any problems. I agree with you, though; others have likely signed it after departing Mysterious Wisdom and then not reported it upon their return.

Dear Michael

It’s been an exhausting week for me in St Petersburg, but also a hugely exciting one – with a real sense of history being made at the Tiger Summit we’ve all waited so long for.

Never before have politicians from all over the world gathered to draw up such a far-reaching plan for a species’ survival. And I’m delighted to tell you that we’ve now got many of the firm commitments we were hoping for – and that many governments and other organisations have already pledged funding to make them a reality.

Of course, the hard work is far from over. We’ll need to keep up the pressure on politicians and help find more funding if tigers are to be properly protected. But today there’s a lot to feel hopeful about – and incredibly proud of, too. An amazing 131,229 of you signed the petition we took to St Petersburg – and I can’t thank you enough for helping us make the politicians sit up and take notice at this critical moment.

Your support just goes to prove what a special place the tiger holds in all of our hearts. So I’d like to thank you once again for all your efforts. Without your help and signatures, we might well have less to celebrate today.

With best wishes
