View Full Version : Where Does The Mind Go???

When we become sedated where does our consciouness go?
I've been intubated and connected to a respirator machine on three different occassions. The last time was approximately two weeks ago.
From each event I recall fragments of memories from points where I was brought to or came to a semi-conscious state. More recently I recall coming to just enough to realize my arms were restrained to the bedside rails and I attempted lifting them. Then nothing.
There has been absolutely no recall from the periods when I was sedated.
I don't sense any memory. LOL. Nothingness. Nirvana.
Does anyone know what occurs in/with the mind during periods of heavy sedation???

I have been sedated/knocked out about three times only in my life and I have to say the same...it is a nothingness....a blank. I have no recollection apart from coming round afterwards. Interesting thought......

hello sweetpea ..from a medical standpoint (nurse only) when people are intubated you are put into a heavy sleep state ..like a minor anaesthetic ..where i work people who have experienced a severe trauma situation are incubated so they may travel by helicopter ..so the period of travel is comfortable ..temporary on hold until further specialist care can be administered.. where does the mind go ..into an induced sleep state from which you are unable to wake your self .so i suspect the soul is in the suspended place also .. from my own reasearch many people who have NDE's do so when they may die while under this sedation ..but not from the incubation itself.hope this helps xx

p.s in Australia the main drug to incubate is midazolam , this drug and i suspect most drugs used to induce anaesthesia ..have the effect of temporariy amnesia this may explain it guys x

Excellent question. I have only been under heavy anaesthetic once and also dont remember anything but blankness . And yet, an awareness must have somehow remained to know it was blankness, I don't know? I feel that such strong drugs put all the faculties to sleep. Does the consciousness leave the body during such times or is it too temporarily blocked? Is it maybe forced out the body?? If the brain is forcibly shut down, there's maybe no capacity to recollect any experiences we might be having outside the body (this is a rare ability anyway). Even dreams seem to be shut down. But who knows what is happening during such times. Maybe our consciousness is galavanting across the inner planes. Or maybe it's sleeping too? No one knows how these powerful drugs affect us on the subtle levels (which medical science has yet even to recognise). I have heard that when one passes over and the body has been heavily sedated, it can take a comparatively longer time for that soul's consciousness to 'wake up' on the other side. Who can say?

Where does the mind go when you fall asleep at night or go into meditation?
I have been doing transcendental meditation for a while and you actually slow the minds wave's to the unified field ....
where you experience peace and bliss nirvana!!!!

where is the mind?
what is it ?
how big is it ?
Is it as big as the universe? since we are told that we are in our minds and in our minds the universe exists!!!!
Is it inside you ?
Is it outside of you ?

IS IT YOU ?

Is the mind your ego ?
Is it attached to your soul ?
what and where is your soul?
Is your soul also your mind and consciousness?
In the law of one everything is interconnected and nothing is separate ..the ego has caused this separation and duality....?
the day we realize this ...that the mind needs to be transcended you will never know who you really are ...
this is the experience of nothingness also...

In an out of body experience or being aware of your astral travelling's your mind is with you so you recollect the viewing of your body from above !!!!!

This question opens up lots of other questions ....

again... what we will be doing here is trying to prove what is........ the unconscious and also the workings of GOD / the unified field and the mysteries of our true self....

this question is like asking what happens to us before we are born and how we get into a body and also what happens to us when we abandon this body ...
I hope we get some ideas that will lead us to the right conclusion.....

so to answer your question ...YOU TRANSCEND YOUR MIND ......

Transcend (Tran*scend") (?), v. t.
[imp. & p. p. Transcended; p. pr. & vb. n. Transcending.]
[L. transcendere, transcensum; trans beyond, over + scandere to climb. See Scan.]

1. To rise above; to surmount; as, lights in the heavens transcending the region of the clouds. Howell.
2. To pass over; to go beyond; to exceed. "Such popes as shall transcend their limits." Bacon.
8. To surpass; to outgo; to excel; to exceed. "How much her worth transcended all her kind." Dryden.
Transcend (Tran*scend") (?), v. i.

1. To climb; to mount. [Obs.]
2. To be transcendent; to excel. [R.]

First, I am sincerely appreciative of each and all of your responses. Each contributing a wonderfully unique perspective. Contributing to a more complete understanding.
An additional contribution to the overall thoughts. During these events I have had absolutely no awareness of the passage of time. On each occassion of returning to a more cognitive sense, I've actually asked the attending nurses what day it was.
During meditation I also experience a 'time sense' loss. But obviously not to the same extent.
And with regard to my personal ego; a part of me wishes to recall what occurs during these events. LOL. But the other part of myself is grateful that no recall remains..... And yes, :) I'm slapping myself for thinking dualisticaly.

Where does reception go if a radio or television is unplugged?

In your scenario, while it is not totally unplugged, it is at least in a serious need for a battery change.

Are Soul and Mind one in the same or are they different from each other?

Is the Soul at the root of the Sub-Conscious?

Is the Mind at the root of the Conscious?

Perhaps the bridge between to the two realms needs to be fully realised before it can be fully essembled before it can be ever crossed both ways .... which I believe is an on-going process ... that takes the time 'it' needs ie: your personal journey ... whether it be in one lifetime or two or many or even forever .... the bridge is indeed there, it is a matter of full acceptence of everything at every point in time, it is what it is, and being at full and complete peace with that, then can one finally cross the bridge and see into the blankness of where the mind goes .... or better put .... beyond the invisible.

The Mind goes to it's respective place .... wherever that may be ..... a place of peace is has already found?

ps: V is right ... this question opens a multitude of questions .... all so very good

I Know this isn't an answer to your question...but if the tape recorder pauses..being suspended or disconnected, it does no harm. The energy we emit, while we are conscious, is always affecting something. The illusion is that the universe affects itself...therefore when we ordinarily help or hurt anything it creates an echo in the universe...this can be called Karma.

It takes many lives till we succeed to clear the debts of many, many hundred years.

I think in case of being sedated, the power of chemicals outweigh the mind. Seems that chemicals like to turn off the mind. It's not really like sleeping or death. And even can't be comparisoned to death.
It's obvious the soul can't stand the power of drugs, so it waits for the body to level itself. I think the mind is the soul's "space". When there is no room for it, it just leave our body. Furthermore we can't limit the mind in the world of meters and seconds. This situation only happened once for me and now that I think about it, I only remember nothingness!! And of course no more! When the mind in dead how can we remember at all? And after being waken up the first thing I remembered was the last moment of being conscious. So I think it's a phase of "suspending" and the mind stands in its last position, waiting for a response.

Mcheraghimn, I sincerely thank you very much for your shared perspective and experience. Thank you very much.
It's apparent that for each of us who have had this experience, we've shared the experience of 'nothingness'.
And through this the mind remains ready to engage at the first moment when the sedation has worn off suffiiceintly.
There is much more to this I'm certain.
And I'm going to find it.
Thank you all very much.

A thought came to mind (no pun intended) regarding the psyche during sedation.
Perhaps the answer is tied in with ourSelfs being multidimensional.?.

i just love the way this sounds ! describes it perfectly and sensibly for me ..its amazing putting all these thoughts into one ..brain in this moment ..i love what mysterious has said about where does the reception go when the radio is unplugged ..so true ..its still there ..that thought ..is resonating right now with me ..thankyou everyone ..i needed this htought .xxx before meditation xx

Just a simple, passing and unformulated thought here ... but most of us here are saying we 'remember' a 'nothingness' of sorts ..... which leads me to believe/think our mind(s) are lead 'somewhere' and experience 'something' .... like I said ... it's just a passing thought at the mo ....

I have experienced being sedated twice in my life thus far, on both occasions it was for oral surgery ....

The first time I was 8 .... and now, in retrospect I first remember a 'nothingness' and as the 'nothingness' ebbed a sort of dream state occured and it was like I was being handed/placed back to 'myself' ...

The second time I was 21 .... and it was nothing like the my first experience ... I was awake then 'nothingness' and then awake again.

*Hm?*

I've very much enjoyed the different views on this and find it a question I seek the answer to without knowing it!

I've been sedated and intubated several times in my life, more recently over 2 years ago when Seryn was only 5 weeks old. Thinking back on it gets me upset actually so i won't dwell on it for too long but it was my first time that I could really recall the events leading up to and after the anaesthesia. I don't remember anything to be honest. Not even a nothingness. I just remember them telling me that I'd feel sleepy and then next thing I knew, I was in a completely different room, looking at the ceiling being very confused about where I was, what I was doing there and forgetting that I even had a child. It took a few minutes for me to get back to reality of remembering what had happened and why I was there and of course, the second I remembered that, I knew Seryn was in the world and I asked where she was and how she was.

Looking back at in between those 2 things, I don't remember anything. Not light, not darkness, not sound...nothing.

I'd like to think that the anaesthesia put my mind into a stasis of some kind. But who knows?

I just watched the movie awake..
The story focuses on a man who suffers "anesthetic awareness" and finds himself awake and aware, but paralyzed, during heart surgery.

totally applies to this thread ...
check it out if you haven't
